I wish I could report that the Syba USB/FireWire Combo cardbus adapter was a painless and trouble-free way to add extra USB ports to a laptop, but for me it was not. On both an older Compaq running 98SE and a later Dell running XP, the one I bought caused the systems to lock up, sometimes during the boot process, and sometimes during the automatic driver installation. It didn't work in either case. The reason for buying it was to get around the problem of a physically damaged USB jack on the Compaq's motherboard; when it failed to work with the Compaq, I tried the same card in my Dell just to see if it was the card or the computer that was at fault. When the Dell also failed to accept it, I concluded that this one was no good. It may have been a bad sample of an otherwise good product, but I think I'll trade for a different brand when I take it back to the store.

Works fine for charging BB 8900 and BB 655+ headset.

This cable allowed me to get rid of one charger and make my nightstand neater.

I connected this cable to a Mini USB charger, then, I connected a MiniUSB-to-MicroUSB adapter to one of the ends, and connected the BB 8900 charging pod to it. I connected BB 655+ headset's charging sleeve to the remaining MiniUSB end.

The setup works well and looks better than two individual cables, plus I freed up an outlet on the power strip.

Received these fairly quickly and they work as advertised, except for the car charger which was defective. But, per their listing, I sent it back using the order # as a return authorization number (save a phone call and hassle), and received an email saying a new one was being sent. Other than that minor issue, I'd say this was a great value for items that Apple charges an arm and a leg for. I'd give 4 stars but for the defective item, but you probably won't have a problem.

The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is due to the excessively long shipment period. The company/warehouse is located somewhere in California; I live on the east coast, so it took about 2 weeks to get here (much longer than I had wanted). And express shipping was not an option (for me at least).

Otherwise, great item!

The information in Michelle's review is not precisely correct: the USB/cradle combination does not require that the AC adapter be attached. The whole idea of a single docking port on small digital cameras is to, well, keep the cameras small. Separate ports (one for charging the battery, one for outputting video to a television set, one for outputting digital pictures through USB to a computer) only bulk up the camera. So, enter "the cradle". HowEVER, yes, the cradle is also sort of a pain. Fortunately the AC adapter for the DSC-M1 (-T1 and -T33 also?) will also connect directly to the camera, just like this VMC15MU USB cable. If you want to bypass the cradle to download pictures to your computer, get one of these.

..But for a price.

I own the Sony DSC-M1 Camera, a $600 camera with its own proprietary 'cradle'. This basically means that to transfer pictures to your PC, you need to:

Plug the AC Adapter into the wall, the other end into the Cradle. Plug a USB Cable from the Cradle to the PC. Slide the cradle-case open, connect the camera to it, slide it closed again, turn it on, and then you can transfer pictures.

Its not the most intuitive method, it gets tedious (Especially since my last SONY Camera, the DSC-P32, had a slot to connect it directly to the PC with a USB Cable, and a seperate Video out plug to connect that directly to a TV) but the M1 cradle does much more than allow USB Connectivity (It charges the camera battery as well as connects to a TV to view pictures on that)

It works great, but its a little complicated process since you have all sorts of wires, adapters, battery packs and such coming out of it, and if you're on a laptop, its just near impossible to transfer data if you're not near a wall outlet. Thats what I believe this product is intended for.

I'm only giving it 4 stars, because it is simply overpriced and should have been included with the camera, in my opinion. If you have a laptop that you plan to transfer pictures to, then go for it.

The other option would be to get a Memory Stick reader for it, which is just around the same price.

I tried to use this for my security cameras. I was thinking that it would inject the power over the Ethernet cable so that I could have one Ethernet cable go to the security camera.

It turns out that you have to plug this adapter into the Camera power jack in addition to the Ethernet cable. . . rather than input the power at the switch, and run a single cable to the camera. The power cable provided from the adapter to your camera isn't that long either, so I didn't even bother to plug and test the adapter.

They should've added this fact to the description of the product.

I've had 5 of these make a popping noise, put out a bit of smoke, and eject some electrolyte (presumably all from a popping capacitor). However, after these episodes, they've all worked just fine. I'm using the 12 V setting, no idea how it'll work for 5 V.

They were popping when connected to a Netgear fs108p switch. After manually adding ground to the switch, no more of these babies have popped. Kinda miss it, to be honest... but it's nice not to have to worry about the sprinklers going off.

I was looking around for a good, less expensive replacement charger after my original one from Dell died when I came upon this one from Ceivio. At first, it was a little suspicious that there were no reviews, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. I'm very glad that I did and I decided to write a review just in case anyone is feeling a little nervous the way I did before purchasing this product. It charges the battery quickly unlike some other replacement adapters that I heard only powers the laptop, but does not charge it. DBroth shipped it out immediately and I was very happy to get the product in a mere three days after I placed my order(it also helped that NY is right next to NJ). My only problem with the charger is that it tends to turn very hot very quickly and make me nervous about overheating. However, the heating does not seem to affect the adapter's performance and can easily be cooled once unplugged. The card reader is also a nice added bonus.

This product worked well for the first month, but then it started going bad. First, i couldnt hear any lyrics the song and only the acoustic. Next it went blank. I had troubles with this and even had it exchanged a few times. The sellers were very nice about it though, but the headphones aren't worth it.

My iBook G4 power adapter started to die about a year ago...the rubber/plastic area by where the cable plugs into the laptop broke, and left the wires exposed. I used some duct tape, and it held fine for about six or seven months, and then no more! I am upgrading my laptop to a new macbook soon, so didn't feel justified in spending the $80 for the apple brand adapter. This works just fine, and the reach is actually a bit longer than Apple's adapter (without the extension cable). The only draw back is that it doesn't have the green/orange light around the plug, but I've gotten used to it, so no worries on that. Highly recommended!

Two USB sockets. Works great for charging iPod, etc, but also BlackBerrys -- which have a higher current requirement. Perfect for my needs. I do wish it were a tad smaller, but being able to charge both devices (and just carry the cables you need) is ideal.
